Distribution: eastern China, Siberia. Korea and Japan
The Mandarin Ducks are 40cm long. They are colorful, and the males have beautiful feathers shaped like sails. They often perch on quiet brooks. Lakes with dense trees on their banks, or on the rivers near mountains. They usually move in pairs, but in winter they live in groups. Because a couple of Mandarin Ducks never separate. In Chinese literature, they are described as the symbol of pure love.
They receive second grade national protection.
