Distribution: Tibetan Plateau

Yak



Weighing 821kg, the male yak is 203cm high from its heel to shoulder and its horn is 80 meters long. Weighing 306kg, the female yak is 156cm high from its heel to shoulder and its horn is 51 cm long. They dwell in the mountainous grasslands and cold deserts at an altitude of 4,000-6,100 meters. Dozens of females and cubs form a group and live together. The adult males live alone or in small groups, each of which is made up of only two or three beasts. They can eat all of plants, but Greminaceous grass is their favorite food. The normal lifespan is 25 years.



They are native to China and are listed as the country's first grade nationally protected animals.
